Kik Interactive - VP of Engineering

We are looking for a technology visionary and strong leader to help take our engineering operation to the next level. The VP of Engineering at Kik will pave the way for the Tel Aviv engineering team, grow the team and take it to new heights. The Tel Aviv team is working at the forefront of cutting edge technologies, from large scale systems to real time masks 3D rendering and big data. You will be the driving force, pushing the team, and it’s technology within the company, and smashing out challenging missions affecting Kik’s 300 million registered users. As the leader of the Tel Aviv dev team, you will set practices, prioritize roadmaps, coach development leads, and set measures of accountability that ensure Kik maintains a strong engineering culture as we continue to grow. You’ll be making change, leading leaders and having a real impact within the company. Required skills:
  • Must have experience managing managers, at least 3 team leads
  • 5+ years as a developer on a non-consulting engineering team
  • 5+ years as an engineering team lead
  • Previous experience managing a team of at least 20 developers
  • Experience developing for Android and iOS
  • Experience developing and working with large production systems at scale
  • Experience running a production system (deployment, monitoring, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of testing and deployment practices
  • Ability to jump into technical challenges but driven to help others succeed
  • Excellent ability to solve problems and think outside the box
  • Proven leadership skills with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating / transitioning engineering teams from mergers / acquisitions or prior experience of working on cross continent teams
  • Ability to think and act strategically, proactively, and with demonstrably excellent judgement
  • Must have excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly communicate complicated technical topics to non-technical audiences, and ability to inspire and motivate all levels of staff
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of architecture roadmap of multiple software projects
  • Work with the leadership team to prioritize high-level company objectives
  • Manage technically-oriented teams and keep consistent technical execution
  • Ensure high quality output, effectively managing speed vs. risk
  • Setup and maintain cost-effective and scalable infrastructure
  • Coach technical leaders in the company to help strengthen the engineering efforts they support
  • Balance the development of new products against the need to maintain and improve existing systems
  • Attract and retain a top-notch team of engineers
  • Balance engineering goals against product goals, knowing when and how to communicate what's best for the end user to technical teams
  • Establish a culture with clear career growth opportunities, responsibility and accountability, including appropriate R&D investments
